Masonic Sword Silver – Blue Velvet & Deep Etching – Marto

Symbolism Hidden in Metal

This sword is a veritable textbook of Masonic iconography. The silver-plated hilt is designed with an extraordinary eye for detail. The grip is inlaid with a material resembling blue velvet, ensuring a luxurious look and a comfortable hold. The wheel pommel bears the symbol of the Five-pointed Star intertwined with the letter "G" (symbolizing Geometry or God – the Great Architect).

The centre of the crossguard is dominated by a gold medallion featuring the Square and Compasses, the most famous Masonic tools, symbolizing morality and the boundaries of action. The high-quality stainless steel blade is decorated with a unique deep etching, where other symbols are outlined in rich black: the gavel, plumb line, trowel, temple pillars, and the All-Seeing Eye.

Usage and Display

The sword is conceived as a prestigious wall decoration or ceremonial item. With a length of 116 cm (45.7 inches) and a weight of 2.6 kg (5.7 lbs), it has a majestic presence in any interior. It is suitable for hanging in a study, library, or within the premises of a Masonic Lodge. For safe installation, we recommend using sturdy wall mounts or a wooden plaque that can support its weight and allow the double-sided decoration to stand out.

Historical Context: The Sword as a Symbol

Although Freemasons are not a military order, the sword has an irreplaceable place in their rituals. It is used during initiation ceremonies and symbolizes the protection of secrets, as well as honour and conscience. Traditionally, it is carried by the "Tyler" (Guardian), who guards the entrance to the lodge. Freemasonry, stemming from the traditions of stonemasons' guilds, strives for the moral improvement of the individual – as the old saying goes: "What you make makes you."

Care and Maintenance

To ensure the sword retains its shine and dignity, please follow these rules:

  • Metal Parts: Clean silver-plated and gold-plated surfaces only with a soft, dry cloth. Avoid chemical cleaners and water, which could damage the patina and the textile insert of the grip.
  • Blade: Do not touch the blade with bare hands. Acidic sweat can leave marks on stainless steel. If touched, polish the surface immediately.
  • Grip: Keep the blue velvet part dry and clean; ideally, just gently dust it or vacuum on the lowest setting.

Safety Warning

This sword is a decorative replica. The stainless steel blade is hard but brittle and is not tempered for combat. The hilt construction is not adapted for dynamic stress (swinging, striking). Never fence with this sword, nor use it for training. There is a risk of the blade breaking and causing serious injury.

Recommended Accessories

A simple wooden plaque or magnetic holder would be an excellent match for this sword, allowing the weapon's complex symbolism to shine without distraction.
