Historical Context and the Legacy of Joan of Arc

This sword is inspired by the first half of the 15th century, specifically the era of the Hundred Years' War. Joan of Arc (1412–1431) was a charismatic leader who, guided by her visions, led the French army to several crucial victories. According to historical legends, Joan carried a sword that was found buried behind the altar in the church of Sainte-Catherine-de-Fierbois. Although this offered sword is not an exact archaeological replica, it is a magnificent artistic tribute to her unbroken will and courage. The symbolism of the fleur-de-lis on the pommel and blade proudly references the French crown, for which Joan laid down her life.

Appearance and Craftsmanship

The weapon has been created as an opulent objet d'art. The blade is richly decorated with an etching that covers a large portion of its surface. The handle is made of aluminium, elegantly gold-plated, and wrapped in genuine leather, over which decorative rings bearing the Latin inscription In Nomine Domine (In the Name of the Lord) are placed. The pommel bears a deep blue enamelled background with a raised golden cross and French lilies. The wooden plaque, which is captured in the photographs, beautifully complements the overall appearance and makes it easy to display the sword on a wall.

Safety Rules and Sword Care

For safety reasons, this is a purely decorative product that is absolutely unsuitable for practical use. The blade is not tempered nor designed to withstand stress. Never use the sword for HEMA fencing, stage combat, martial arts training, or cutting tests. Any strike of the blade against a hard surface could lead to it breaking, destroying the hilt, and causing serious injury to yourself.

To ensure your sword remains in pristine condition for a long time, we recommend regularly dusting the blade with a dry cloth and occasionally conserving it with a thin layer of gun oil, which will reliably prevent surface oxidation. The leather on the handle should occasionally be treated with a high-quality leather balsam.
