Masonic Sword "Apprentice" – Exclusive Edition by Marto

Symbolism Hidden in Metal: Square, Compass, and Star

This sword is literally a textbook of symbols. The hilt is a solid casting made of Zamak alloy with a finish combining bronze and silver, ensuring a luxurious appearance. The grip is inlaid with dark green velvet, which contrasts with the golden metal and ensures a pleasant touch.

The dominant feature of the crossguard is the central medallion depicting the most famous Masonic symbol: the Square and Compasses. Notice that both legs of the compass are hidden behind the square – this arrangement in Masonic tradition signifies the first degree of initiation, the Apprentice degree. On the sides of the guard, you will find other symbols: on one side, the open Volume of Sacred Law, and on the other, a Masonic gavel. The pommel bears an interlaced pentagram (Blazing Star) on a green background and is topped with a nut shaped like the face of the Sun.

Historical Window: The Sword as a Symbol of Protecting Secrets

In Masonic lodges, the sword is not used for combat but as a powerful symbol. It represents the protection of secrets, power, and justice. Traditionally, it is carried by the "Tyler" (Guardian of the Temple), who guards the entrance to the lodge against intruders. The green colour of the velvet on this replica may refer to nature, truth, or the hope of resurrection. This specific model is designed to represent the journey of seeking light embarked upon by every new member of the brotherhood.

How to Care for the Sword

To ensure this gem remains the highlight of your collection forever, follow these principles:

  • Mind the Velvet: Avoid wetting the velvet handle when cleaning. Remove dust only with a fine brush or a vacuum cleaner on the lowest setting.
  • Metal Care: Wipe the blade and metal parts of the hilt with a dry soft cloth. Occasionally, you can apply a thin layer of preservation oil to the blade.
  • Shine: Do not use aggressive metal cleaners on the bronze parts, as they could damage the patina.

Safety Warning

Please bear in mind that this is a heavy decorative item (weighing over 2.3 kg / 5 lbs!).

  • Wall Only: The sword is under no circumstances intended for fencing, swinging, or practicing cuts. The Zamak alloy hilt is not constructed for dynamic impact and could snap.
  • Secure Installation: Due to the high weight, ensure the hanging system in the wall is anchored very firmly (use long wall plugs).

This sword will look breathtaking if placed on a wooden plaque or displayed alongside other esoteric or historical artifacts.
