Roman Gladius, Sharp Version, Cold Steel
This Cold Steel® interpretation is not a reproduction of a specific antique gladius, but rather a collection of the most important features of this historic sword. The blade, for example, has the traditional shape but, unlike the antique version, is made from carbon steel with a spring temper. It is fully sharpened on both sides and highly polished. The point is long but sturdy enough not to bend or break.
The hilt is carved from Rosewood in the classic style. The wooden scabbard is covered with black leather and adorned with a locket, chape, and suspension rings all made from solid brass.
The Gladius in History
The gladius was the standard weapon of the Roman legionary for hundreds of years. While also effective for cutting, its primary strength was the thrust. Legionaries, protected behind their large shields (*scutum*), fought in tight formation and used their gladii for fast, lethal stabs at the unprotected parts of their enemies. Its relatively short blade was far more agile in the press of close combat than the longer swords of their barbarian foes.

Care Instructions
The blade is made of carbon steel, which means it is strong and holds a great edge, but it is prone to rust. To keep your sword beautiful, you must take care of it.
- Wipe the blade with a clean, dry cloth after each use (or even just after handling).
- Regularly coat the blade with a thin layer of oil (we recommend weapon maintenance oil, e.g., SKU 85034).
- Never touch the blade with your bare hands! The sweat and moisture from your hands can cause rust within hours.
- Store the sword in a dry place. Do not leave it in its scabbard for long-term storage, especially in a humid environment, as this can trap moisture.

This is definitely not a toy. This sword is fully functional and extremely sharp. It can cause serious or fatal injury if handled carelessly. Use it with extreme caution, in a safe place, and entirely at your own risk. Always keep the sword out of the reach of children and unauthorised persons.
