Stage Combat Katana "Ikusa" – Safety and Tradition

Built for Battle

The heart of the sword is a blade made of 9260 spring steel, hardened to approx. 55 HRC. This material is renowned for its extreme flexibility and resistance to breakage. The blade is massive, in the Shinogi-Zukuri style, and intentionally lacks a groove (bo-hi) to maintain maximum material weight and strength. For safety, the striking edge is approx. 1.5 mm thick, and the tip is rounded.

Traditional Look and Details

Even though it is a working tool, aesthetics have not been overlooked. The handle (tsuka) is covered with genuine ray skin and wrapped in black cotton in the specific Katate-maki style (battle wrap). This style is historically favoured for its durability in combat. The guard (tsuba) is made of metal and decorated with an openwork cherry blossom motif, adding a gentle contrast to its martial purpose. The ensemble is completed by a scabbard (saya) in a matte Kuroishime style lacquer.

Safety and Maintenance

Although the sword is blunt, it is still a steel weapon. Always use protective gear during stage combat. The 9260 spring steel blade is not stainless, so clean and oil it after every use to maintain its condition.
