Close Combat Weapon of the Arena and Historical Context
Roman gladiators were destined to fight highly brutal, close-quarters battles in the arenas across the vast Roman Empire to entertain the masses. For this kind of tight combat, a short sword or dagger designed for rapid thrusting was an extremely popular weapon. This particular dagger is a beautiful replica of a weapon unearthed during the excavations of Pompeii. Buried under 4 to 6 metres (13 to 20 feet) of ash, Pompeii remains a veritable El Dorado for archaeologists. You will notice that no scabbard is included with this product. There is a historically accurate reason for this: gladiator weapons were carried directly into the arena or handed out to the fighters on the sands, so scabbards were simply not used in the gladiatorial games.

The highly detailed handle is crafted from naturally grown animal bone. Please be aware that because this is a natural material, small hairline cracks or slight colour variations are entirely normal. Such minor imperfections look authentic, natural, and unique, and they do not reduce the quality or the structural integrity of the handle in any way. To prevent further cracking, keep the bone away from extreme heat and humidity changes. The forged carbon steel blade is susceptible to rust, so you must regularly coat it with a light layer of gun oil after every use or handling.
The blade is completely unsharpened. According to the manufacturer, this makes it perfect for collectors as well as for theatrical combat representations and light reenactment. However, for your safety and the safety of others, we strongly warn you against using this weapon for full-contact heavy sparring or rigorous man-to-man duels, as this replica is not designed to withstand extreme impact forces. To perfectly complete your ancient Roman impression, we recommend acquiring a historically accurate gladiator helmet to accompany this dagger.
