Are you looking for a sword that stands out from the usual black classics and carries deep symbolism? The "Shiro" Katana by the trusted brand John Lee is the embodiment of contrasts. In Japanese culture, the colour Shiro (white) signifies not only purity and holiness but is also the colour of mourning and death. Samurai wore white clothing under their armour as a signal that they were ready to fight to the end and die with honour. This sword is thus the ideal choice for those who understand the warrior's path in its full depth. With its sharp blade and striking white design, it will become the jewel of your collection or a faithful tool for training. Further product information ...

John Lee "Shiro" Katana – Symbol of Purity and Determination

Design of Light and Shadow

The dominant feature of this katana is its snow-white finish. The wooden scabbard (saya) is coated in a high-gloss white lacquer, which looks very clean and elegant. The handle (tsuka) is covered with genuine ray skin and precisely wrapped in white cotton in the traditional hineri-maki style. This bright ensemble is complemented by a black openwork guard (tsuba) and a striking black-and-white sageo cord, creating an impressive visual contrast. All fittings are in traditional style, with the habaki and seppa made of brass.

Functionality and Construction

The blade in the shinogi-zukuri style is hand-forged from 1045 carbon steel. This material provides a good balance between hardness and flexibility for basic use. The blade is supplied sharp and features a groove (bo-hi), which reduces weight and produces a characteristic sound when swung. The temper line (hamon) on this blade is artificially created by cross-grinding, giving it an authentic look without increasing the price through traditional differential hardening. The sword features a full-tang construction, secured in the handle by two bamboo pegs (mekugi), allowing the sword to be disassembled if necessary.

Usage and Care

This katana is suitable for light cutting tests (tameshigiri) on soft targets (e.g., tatami mats) and for practicing forms (kata). Due to the use of 1045 steel, it is not intended for cutting hard objects. For maintenance, the blade must be oiled regularly (e.g., with clove oil), as carbon steel is not stainless and is prone to rust, especially after being touched by bare hands.
