Ronin Katana, Citade
Are you looking for a sword that doesn't flaunt gold but speaks with its hidden strength and perfect functionality? The Ronin Katana from the renowned Citadel brand is a tribute to warriors who walked their own path. It is inspired by the legend of the 47 Ronin (Ronin, a Master-less Samurai, whose story remains a synonym for honour and loyalty beyond death to this day. This katana is characterized by a deliberately simple, almost austere design, which nevertheless conceals top-quality materials and craftsmanship. It is the ideal weapon for anyone seeking an authentic, fully functional sword for tameshigiri (test cutting) or practicing kata forms without having to pay for unnecessary ornamentation. Blade: Hardened by Fire and Water
The heart of the sword is a hand-forged blade made of high-quality 1075 carbon steel (DNH7). Citadel blacksmiths use the traditional method of differential hardening with clay paste. The result is an extremely hard edge (approx. 60 HRC) that holds a razor-sharp edge, whilst the spine remains tough (approx. 40 HRC) to withstand impact. The blade is hand-polished to a mirror shine, highlighting the natural and clearly visible temper line (hamon). For better handling and the typical whistling sound during a cut (tachi-kaze), the blade features a groove (bo-hi) along its entire length.
Koshirae: Elegance in Simplicity
The sword's mounting (koshirae) is crafted with an emphasis on practicality and traditional aesthetics. The guard (tsuba), collar (fuchi), and pommel (kashira) are handmade from blackened iron. The tsuba has a simple circular shape with cutouts, and the kashira is decorated with a delicate floral motif symbolizing the transience of life. The handle is covered with genuine ray skin and tightly wrapped with black Japanese silk in the hineri-maki style, ensuring a secure grip even with sweaty palms. The scabbard (saya) is finished in a matte black lacquer with a fine texture (Kuroishime style), which is resistant to fingerprints and scratches.
Care and Maintenance
Since the blade is made of carbon steel, it requires your care to prevent rust. After every use or touch with bare hands, the blade must be cleaned and treated with high-quality oil (e.g., Choji clove oil). Store the sword in a dry environment. Included in the package are a high-quality fabric bag and a padded case for safe transport.
Safety Warning
This katana is a fully functional and extremely sharp weapon. It is not a toy or a dull replica for stage combat. Exercise extreme caution during handling. Cutting hard objects (metal, stone, bone) or poor cutting technique can irreversibly damage the blade (chipping or bending), which is not covered by the warranty. Use it with the respect it deserves.
