Citadel Ronin Katana – Functional Sword of the Masterless Samurai
Hand-Forged High Carbon Steel Blade
The blade is hand-forged from high-quality 1075 carbon steel (DNH7) in the Shinogi-Zukuri style. Citadel artisans use traditional clay tempering to create a differential hardness: the edge is hardened to approximately 60 HRC for superior sharpness retention, while the spine remains at roughly 40 HRC to absorb shock. This process results in a genuine, visible Hamon (temper line) and a mirror-polished surface. A fuller (Bo-Hi) runs along the spine to lighten the blade and produce audible feedback during cutting.
Traditional Koshirae Fittings
The mountings are understated yet durable, reflecting the Ronin's practical nature. The Tsuba (guard), Fuchi (collar), and Kashira (pommel) are crafted from lacquered iron. The wooden handle is inlaid with genuine ray skin and tightly wrapped in black Japanese silk in the classic Hineri-Maki style, ensuring a secure grip. The scabbard (Saya) features a Kuroishime finish—a matte black lacquer with glossy speckles that is resistant to fingerprints and scratches.
Care and Maintenance
As this is a high-carbon steel blade, it requires regular care to prevent rust. Avoid touching the polished steel with bare hands. Clean and oil the blade (using clove oil or similar) after every use. The sword comes with a high-quality fabric bag and a padded Cordura case for safe transport and storage.
Safety Warning
This katana is razor-sharp and designed for cutting exercises on soft targets (such as Tatami mats). It is not a toy or a blunt stage prop. Do not use it for metal-on-metal contact or cutting hard objects like wood or stone, as this will damage the edge. Always handle with extreme caution and respect.
