Ten Kei Katana – Heaven's Gift with Kobuse Blade
Masterful Blade Construction: Kobuse
Ordinary replicas are often made from a single piece of steel. The Ten Kei, however, utilizes a complex laminated Kobuse construction. This involves a soft core of low-carbon steel wrapped in a jacket of hard steel.
- Jacket (Hard Steel): Formed from hand-forged 1095 carbon steel. Through differential hardening using clay, the edge reaches a hardness of 60 HRC, while the spine remains at 40 HRC. This ensures extreme sharpness and edge retention.
- Core (Soft Steel): The soft steel inside the blade acts as a shock absorber, significantly reducing the risk of the sword breaking during a cut.
A genuine, undulating hamon line is clearly visible on the blade, as is the fuller (Bo-Hi), which reduces weight and produces the characteristic tachikaze (whooshing sound) when cut correctly.
Artistic Koshirae Design
The sword is a celebration of nature, reflecting its name. The hand-crafted guard (Tsuba), hilt collar (Fuchi), and pommel (Kashira) are decorated with fine floral motifs, highlighted with gold and silver. The wooden handle is covered with genuine ray skin (Same) and wrapped in green silk in the traditional battle style Katate-Maki. The scabbard (Saya) is lacquered to a high gloss, and its mouth, knob, and end cap are made of genuine buffalo horn, a sign of the highest quality.
Usage and Safety
This sword is not a toy. It is sharpened to a razor edge and is fully functional for tameshigiri (test cutting on mats). Exercise maximum caution when handling. It is not intended for steel-on-steel contact fencing—the hard edge could chip. The sword is delivered in a luxurious wooden case with a cloth bag, a certificate of authenticity, and a stand, making it ready for immediate presentation.
Sword Care
Since the blade is made of carbon steel, it requires regular maintenance to prevent rusting. Clean and oil the blade after every touch or cut (e.g., with Choji oil). Avoid long-term storage in damp environments.
