Empire Design and Materials
The hilt is a precise casting made of Zamak (an alloy of zinc, aluminum, magnesium, and copper), allowing for the capture of the finest details. The crossguard is dominated by the Imperial Eagle with spread wings, a symbol of Napoleon's power, and the grip is decorated with a relief of a helmeted head. The blade is made of stainless steel and features decorative fullers.
Historical Trivia: The Myth of the Little Corporal
Napoleon is often depicted as a man of short stature, but the opposite is true. After his death in 1821, his height was recorded as 5 feet 2 inches. However, these were French inches. Converted to modern measurements, he was 168 cm (approx. 5ft 6in) tall, which was actually taller than the average Frenchman of the 19th century. Furthermore, the nickname "Le petit caporal" (The Little Corporal) did not refer to his height, but to his close friendship with his soldiers.
