Sharp Tsuru Samurai Katana of 1045 Carbon Steel
Construction and Traditional Details of the Sword
The blade is hand-forged from 1045 carbon steel in the traditional Japanese Shinogi-Zukuri style. To achieve optimal weapon balance, the blade features a weight-reducing fuller, known as a Bo-Hi. The aesthetic impression is enhanced by the sharp edge featuring an artificial temper line (hamon), which gives the weapon a highly authentic appearance. The handle (tsuka) is carefully covered with genuine ray skin and subsequently tightly wrapped with brown cotton ribbon in the classic Hineri-Maki style. All metal ornaments on the sword, namely the handguard (tsuba), the handle collar (fuchi), the ornaments beneath the wrap (menuki), and the pommel (kashira), bear the detailed motif of a flying crane. The blade is securely locked into the handle with two bamboo pegs (mekugi), underscoring the fully functional and traditional construction. The sword includes a black, high-gloss wooden scabbard (saya) finished in the Kuroro style.

The Symbolism of the Crane and Martial Arts Usage
In Japanese mythology and culture, the crane (Tsuru) represents a remarkably powerful symbol associated with luck, loyalty, and longevity. An ancient legend even states that the gods will grant one great wish to anyone who folds a thousand origami cranes. This noble motif, which winds its way through the entire decoration of this sword, makes it not merely a lethal tool, but a spiritual artifact. From a martial arts perspective, considering its craftsmanship and materials, this katana is fully suitable for the solo practice of traditional martial forms (kata) and for executing light cutting tests (tameshigiri) on tatami practice mats.
Safety Warnings and Carbon Steel Maintenance
For safety reasons, we must issue a very strong warning: this katana is equipped with a sharp blade and is under no circumstances intended for contact historical fencing or any man-to-man combat! Using it for these purposes would inevitably lead to fatal and life-threatening injuries. Using the weapon for tameshigiri is purely at your own risk. The weapon must be kept entirely out of the reach of children. Because the blade is constructed from 1045 carbon steel, it is naturally susceptible to the formation of rust. After every training session, and especially after cutting tests or accidental contact with a bare hand, it is absolutely essential to carefully clean the blade, dry it completely, and preserve it with a thin layer of special sword oil. Never store the weapon long-term in a damp scabbard, and as a strict rule, do not touch the blade with your fingers, as aggressive sweat induces immediate metal corrosion.
Recommended Accessories for Your Katana
