"Bushido" Katana – Practical Sword with Excellent Price/Performance Ratio
Construction and Materials
The heart of the sword is a blade made of 1045 carbon steel, hardened to approx. 50 HRC. With a spine thickness (mune) of 7 mm and a full-tang construction, the sword is robust enough for light cutting tests (e.g., fruit, plastic bottles). The blade is securely fixed in the handle with two bamboo pegs (mekugi), increasing safety during handling. The blade surface features a fine steel structure, and the edge is sharpened.
Traditional Look and Details
The handle (tsuka) is made of hardwood and covered with genuine ray skin (Samegawa) for a secure grip. The wrap consists of black cotton ribbon (Tsuka-ito), hiding brass ornaments (menuki) underneath. The dominant feature is the massive, double-sided decorated guard (tsuba) with a relief of a samurai warrior and gold accents, referencing the sword's name. The overall impression is underscored by a black lacquered wooden scabbard (saya) with a matte/satin finish and black cord (sageo).
