John Lee "Saigo Takamori" Katana
2xTransport yourself to 1877, the time of the Satsuma Rebellion, when tradition faced modernity. This functional and sharp katana by John Lee is a tribute to Saigo Takamori, the historical figure who inspired Katsumoto in the movie The Last Samurai. Unlike cheap movie replicas, this is a masterpiece of smithing suitable not only for display but also for cutting practice (tameshigiri). The sword stands out for its sobriety and elegance—there is no movie inscription on the blade, adding to its historical authenticity. Further product information ...

John Lee "Saigo Takamori" Katana – Legacy of the Last Samurai
Craftsmanship and Materials
The blade is hand-forged from 1045 carbon steel and hardened throughout to approx. 55 HRC. The edge is sharp, and the blade features a groove (bo-hi) to reduce weight and produce an audible feedback when swinging. The hamon line is artificially created by cross-polishing, standard for this category (Forged Line). The handle (tsuka) is made of hardwood, covered with genuine ray skin, and tightly wrapped with black cotton in the traditional style.
