Katana "Chrysanthemum" with Carbon Steel Blade

Detailed Katana Description

From the blade to the details on the hilt, this sword is a tribute to classic Japanese design.

Carbon Steel Blade and Elegant Tsuba

Unlike common decorative swords, the blade of this piece is forged from hardened carbon steel, giving it a more authentic weight and appearance. The sword's dominant feature is its openwork guard (tsuba) in a chrysanthemum design—a symbol of the Imperial Family of Japan, longevity, and happiness. Its dark finish elegantly contrasts with the brass habaki collar.

Traditional Hilt and Scabbard

The hilt (tsuka) is constructed in the traditional manner. A white imitation ray skin (same-gawa) base is tightly wrapped with a black cord (tsuka-ito) in the classic pattern. The sword comes with a simple, high-gloss black scabbard (saya) and is packaged in a protective wooden box, which you receive free of charge.

  • Overall Length: approx. 995 mm (39.2 in)
  • Blade Length: approx. 710 mm (28 in)
  • Blade Material: Hardened Carbon Steel
  • Tsuba: Metal, Chrysanthemum design, approx. 73 x 68 mm

Explanation: Practical vs. Decorative Use

This katana is described in the manufacturer's materials as "suitable for practical use" due to its carbon steel construction and very sharp edge. These features give it the look and feel of an authentic sword. However, the manufacturer does not provide a warranty against damage from practical use (e.g., cutting) and also explicitly labels the sword as decorative. For this reason, we strongly recommend that you treat this katana as a high-end collector's and decorative item, not as a tool for tameshigiri (cutting practice) or contact sparring.

IMPORTANT: Safety and Carbon Steel Care

Safety First

The blade is extremely sharp! Always exercise the utmost caution when handling the sword, even if it is intended for display. Keep it out of the reach of children.

Blade Care

Unlike stainless steel, carbon steel is susceptible to rust. To keep the blade in perfect condition, it is necessary to wipe it dry regularly (especially after every touch) and apply a thin film of preservation oil (e.g., mineral oil or gun oil).
