White Dragon Decorative Katana: Spirit of the Mythical Ryu
Appearance and Craftsmanship
This katana is designed primarily for visual effect. The blade is made of carbon steel, giving it a realistic look and weight, but the edge has a thickness of approx. 1 mm, so it is not razor-sharp. The handle (Tsuka) is wrapped in white cotton tape in the traditional style, revealing an imitation ray skin underneath. The scabbard (Saya) is made of wood, lacquered in white, and decorated with a fine line drawing of a dragon. The overall impression is underscored by the circular handguard (Tsuba) made of dark metal with a relief of dragons in the clouds.
Important Note: For Decoration Only!
It is crucial to know that this is a decorative item. The construction of the sword, especially the tang (the part hidden inside the handle), is not designed for dynamic stress. Warning: Never cut any objects with this katana and do not use it for fencing (or even practicing cuts in the air). There is a risk of the blade breaking, the handle coming loose, and causing injury to yourself or others. It serves exclusively for display on a stand, as a costume accessory (Cosplay), or for light theatre usage where no blade contact occurs.
Symbolism of the Dragon in Japan
Unlike European dragons, which are often perceived as evil fire-breathing monsters, the Japanese dragon (Ryu) is a water being. It is associated with rain, the sea, and rivers. In Japanese mythology, dragons are considered benevolent protectors, bearers of wisdom, and symbols of imperial power. A white dragon often symbolizes purity and spiritual power. According to tradition, having a dragon symbol at home attracts good luck and protection.
Sword Care
Even though the sword is decorative, the blade is made of carbon steel and can be subject to corrosion.
- Do not touch the blade with bare hands (sweat is corrosive).
- Occasionally wipe the blade with a cloth and apply a thin layer of preservative oil (e.g., WD-40 or silicone oil).
- Wipe the scabbard only with a dry or slightly damp soft cloth to avoid scratching the lacquer.
To make this piece truly stand out in your room, we recommend you acquire a wooden sword stand (for a table or wall).
