Women's Medieval Light Surcoat – Sleeveless Overdress
Simple Elegance and Functionality
This type of garment, also known as a surcoat, is characterized by its sleeveless design and large side armholes. Historically, it was worn over an underdress (chemise or kirtle), allowing free movement of the arms for work or dancing. While deep armholes were fashionable among the nobility in certain eras (the so-called "Gates of Hell"), in this simple cotton version, the surcoat evokes the practical clothing of country women or artisans.
Material and Craftsmanship
The surcoat is made of 100% cotton. The fabric is light, breathable, and unlined, making it an ideal piece for warm weather. The fabric's texture resembles linen thread, maintaining a period look with the softness and easy maintenance of cotton. It is available in several colors (Green, Wine Red, Saffron), which you can easily match with the rest of your costume.
