Lucis Hand-and-a-Half Flamberge Sword
Sword class B
Detailed Weapon Description
The most dominant feature of the entire sword is undoubtedly its characteristically wavy blade, known as a flamberge or flaming blade. You can choose between two wave patterns: "snake" (subtler waves) or "sausage" (more pronounced waves). This blade, approximately 91 cm long, is forged from proven ČSN 14260 spring steel and hardened to about 47 HRC. It comes with a blunt, 2-3 mm thick edge, which is perfect for stage combat.
The hilt is designed for maximum functionality and aesthetics. The massive steel crossguard is about 23 cm wide, with arms that elegantly curve towards the blade, aiding in blade binding techniques. The long 21 cm grip provides ample space for a one or two-handed hold. It features a wooden core, carefully wrapped in genuine leather and reinforced with decorative wire for a secure and firm grip. The sword is completed by an intricate, faceted pommel that not only looks stunning but, more importantly, perfectly balances the long blade – the point of balance (POB) is located just 1 cm from the guard!
History and Use
Historical Context
Flamberge blades became popular in the late Middle Ages and Renaissance, especially among German mercenaries, the Landsknechts, who used them on their massive two-handed swords (Zweihänder). The wavy shape of the blade was said to have several advantages: it inflicted a more severe and harder-to-heal wound, and in blade-on-blade contact, it could transmit stronger vibrations to an opponent's weapon. On this hand-and-a-half sword, the flamberge design is adapted for a faster and more agile fighting style.
