Custom Medieval Leather Sword Scabbard with Cross Lacing and Belts
An Ingenious Suspension System
Hanging a sword using two belts is a historically documented and highly practical solution from the High Middle Ages. The secret lies in the distribution of weight and force. The wider carrying belt, on which the weapon itself hangs, is worn more loosely slung across the hips below the waistline. However, to prevent the hanger from slipping down over your hips during movement, it is secured by a second, narrower belt that you fasten tightly exactly at your waist. This gives the weapon perfect stability and ensures it is always ready for a lightning-fast draw. The belts are secured by sturdy cast metal buckles in a classic shape, guaranteeing long-lasting high strength.
Individually Custom Made for Your Weapon
To ensure that the sword fits perfectly in the scabbard, does not fall out, but can be drawn smoothly at the same time, the scabbard is always made exactly to measure. Therefore, after completing your order, we will ask you to provide the exact dimensions of your blade (length, width at the guard, width at the tip, and thickness). This is the only way we can guarantee that the sheath will function flawlessly. The maximum standard length of the belts is 150 cm (approx. 59 inches), which is comfortably sufficient for most builds even when worn over a gambeson. However, if you need longer belts, we will gladly make them upon request; simply include your waist circumference in the order notes.

Note: This product is handmade from genuine natural leather. Minor colour differences, fine wrinkles, or variations in surface texture are its natural characteristics and proof of the material's authenticity. These slight imperfections do not reduce the utilitarian value of the product in any way; on the contrary, they make each piece a complete original.
Leather Care and Safe Handling
To keep the leather supple and resistant to moisture, we recommend treating it regularly with a high-quality product based on beeswax or lanolin. If the scabbard gets wet in the rain, never dry it near a direct heat source, such as a radiator or open fire. The leather could harden, become brittle, and crack. Let it dry naturally at room temperature. From a safety perspective, exercise extreme caution if you place a sword with a sharp blade into this scabbard. The leather does not contain a wooden core, so careless drawing or sheathing of a sharp weapon poses a risk of cutting through the material and causing serious injury.
We highly recommend purchasing period linen clothing or a padded gambeson from our range to accompany this scabbard, over which the leather strapping will look absolutely fantastic and authentic.
