Sword Design and Execution
The weapon boasts a very specific and elaborate appearance. Its blade is crafted from carbon steel, which adds a touch of authenticity. At first glance, you will undoubtedly be captivated by the handle (tsuka), which is bound with a prominent yellow wrap (tsuka-ito) that contrasts beautifully against the black background. The substantial metal handguard (tsuba) features an interesting lobed shape with geometric cutouts, giving the weapon a robust yet elegant character. The most striking element, however, is undoubtedly the wooden scabbard (saya). It is finished with black paint and decorated along its entire length with the cycle of lunar phases in a golden-yellow hue. The moon has always held immense significance in Japanese poetry and culture, symbolising the passage of time, enlightenment, and impermanence, which lends this piece a deeper aesthetic dimension.
Important Usage and Safety Warning
This katana is designed exclusively as an ornamental item and a Cosplay accessory. It is under no circumstances intended for any practical use! The weapon is not built for contact fencing (HEMA, theatrical combat), martial arts training (iaido, kendo), and certainly not for cutting tests (tameshigiri). The construction and the blade cannot withstand the impact of a real strike. The blade may be sharp, and we therefore strongly warn you against careless handling. Attempting to cut or spar with it carries the risk of destroying the sword and, above all, the danger of serious or fatal injury. Any handling of the weapon is entirely at your own risk.
Carbon Steel Maintenance
To ensure your sword remains beautiful for a long time and the blade does not succumb to unsightly rust, proper care is essential. Carbon steel is susceptible to atmospheric moisture and especially to the aggressive acids found in human sweat. After every time it is drawn from the scabbard, or if you touch the blade with your bare hand, wipe it carefully with a soft, dry cloth and apply a very thin layer of protective oil. Traditional Japanese clove oil, known as choji, is ideal for this purpose, or alternatively, you can use a high-quality modern gun oil. You should not expose the sword to extreme temperature fluctuations or high humidity.
