Light Sleeveless Gambeson (1200–1350) – Natural
Layering and Protection
The main advantage of this model is its versatility. You can wear it as standalone light armour (aketon) that protects the torso from chafing and cushions light blows. However, it functions even better as a base layer under a chainmail hauberk. The high collar with side buttoning protects your neck from the unpleasant rubbing of a mail coif. The diamond quilting effectively holds the padding in place, ensuring it doesn't shift over time.
Material and Craftsmanship
The outer layer is made of 100% cotton with a coarser texture that faithfully mimics period canvas. The filling consists of a polyester-wool blend with a thickness of approx. 4 mm (0.16"). This makes it a thinner variant of a gambeson that doesn't add unnecessary bulk but still performs its cushioning function. Both the front and back feature slits for comfortable movement and riding.
Size Chart
Measurements are taken from the garment. Choose a size that leaves room for an undershirt and breathability.

Gambeson Care
To ensure your gear lasts:
- Machine wash in cold water (max. 30°C / 86°F) on a gentle cycle.
- Treat stubborn stains (grass, mud, rust) with a soft brush and mild soap.
- Do not tumble dry; let it air dry naturally.
Recommended Accessories
For a complete look, we recommend cinching this gambeson with a leather belt. It fits perfectly under a long chainmail hauberk, while you can protect your arms with separate padded or mail sleeves.
