Although this specific model possesses a strong fantasy vibe inspired by popular video games and series, its foundations lie in real history. Padded jackets (also known as gambesons, aketons, or padded jacks) formed the base layer of European warriors' armour from the 12th to the 15th centuries. For poorer infantry, this was often the only available protection, whilst heavy infantry and knights wore it as a shock-absorbing undergarment beneath chainmail or plate armour. The specific lacing on the sides is based on late 14th-century fashion, which favoured a tight, tailored fit. The decorative rivets on this piece evoke the visual style of a brigandine, a popular armour with internal steel plates, lending the gambeson a more dangerous and robust appearance.

This padded gambeson is made of high-quality 100% cotton, making it an ideal choice for both historical costumes and fantasy outfits. Cotton absorbs sweat excellently, is highly breathable, and feels very comfortable against the skin. The jacket reaches approximately to the knees and features practical slits at the front and back. These guarantee you absolute freedom of movement, whether you are charging into an attack or saddling a horse. The short sleeves allow for excellent arm mobility and are ideal for summer festivals. The chest and both sides feature lacing that allows for minor size adjustments. The surface of the garment is decorated with a regular network of rivets that enhance the overall aesthetic impression.

Care Instructions and Safety

To ensure the gambeson remains in perfect condition for as long as possible, it requires proper care. Due to the presence of metal rivets, we strictly advise against using a washing machine or tumble dryer – the rivets could tear out and severely damage the washing drum. We recommend only gentle hand washing at a maximum of 30 °C (86 °F) or professional dry cleaning. You can iron the cotton fabric on a medium heat setting, but avoid direct contact between the iron and the metal rivets.

From a safety perspective, please note that this is light padded armour intended for LARP, stage combat, or technique training. By itself, it does not provide adequate protection for full-contact heavy combat, such as buhurt (Battle of the Nations). For such purposes, you must wear it underneath full steel armour. Clothing and accessories shown in the photographs, other than the gambeson itself, are not included in the delivery.
