Gambesons
They're also called quilting. Gambesons were worn by medieval soldiers and knights under ring or plate armour. Today's gambesons made from thick cotton canvas padding are extremely well ventilated and drive away perspiration, so they're perfect on their own without armour as clothing for historical fencing, fantasy or LARP events. Gambesons are often made from very durable materials, so you don't have to worry too much about damaging them.
