The gambeson (or aketon) was an integral part of military equipment from the early to the late Middle Ages (approximately 11th to 15th centuries). Historically, it was worn either as standalone armour by poorer infantrymen or as a shock-absorbing underlayer beneath mail or plate armour to absorb the energy of blows. This children's model is based on the cuts of European padded jackets from the High Middle Ages. The upper fabric made of duvetyne (100% cotton) and the linen-blend lining guarantee excellent breathability and durability. The armour is fastened at the front using four leather straps with metal buckles.

This children's gambeson is manufactured exclusively to measure, up to a maximum height of 150 cm (59 inches). Upon request, the product is also made in other colours according to available fabric swatches. When ordering, simply state the desired colour in the comments section. If a fabric with a different composition is chosen, the price may change, which will be consulted with you beforehand.

Care Instructions And Safety Warnings

To ensure this historical garment lasts your little warrior as long as possible looking like new, we recommend having it dry-cleaned or washing it very carefully by hand at a temperature up to 30 °C (86 °F). Dry it laid flat; never use a tumble dryer. Occasionally treat the leather straps with a genuine leather balm to prevent them from cracking. Warning: Although the garment absorbs light impacts, it is not certified protective equipment for hard contact fencing and does not serve as actual safety armour.
