History of the gambeson.
Gambeson was gambeson which was worn under the armor to protect their mercenary body against bruises and abrasions. According to a survey the Association ARMA (The Association for Renaissance Martial Arts), gambeson was also good protection against the sword's cut. Gambesons usually consisted of two layers of canvas or wool, which was stuffed finer cloth, raw wool, or other fillings. There are also documented gambesons without padding, consisting only of several layers of fabric. Gambesons were worn by knights as a secondary outfit under chain mail. But they are also known cases where a strong gambeson was used as the primary military equipment.
