Urs Velunt Viking Sword: Northern Steel for Fencing and Re-enactment
Construction for Combat and Training
The heart of the sword is a blade made of high-quality spring steel, hardened to an optimal 50-55° HRC. This ensures that the sword is flexible and does not break, yet retains its shape well. The blade runs through the entire handle (full-tang construction) and is securely peened at the end of the pommel. This traditional solution guarantees maximum safety – the pommel will never come loose, even during dynamic movement.
The guard and pommel, typical of Petersen type Viking swords, are made of steel. The wooden grip is wrapped in leather for a firm and non-slip hold, even when wearing gloves. The package also includes an elegant wooden scabbard with metal fittings, which protects the blade during transport.

How to Use and Care for Your Sword
The sword features a blunt edge with a thickness of 1.0–1.4 mm and a rounded safety tip. It is suitable for fencing, but due to the slightly finer edge (standard heavy battle-ready weapons often have 2-3 mm), it is ideal for technical fencing, drills, and stage combat where proper parrying is emphasized. Hard "edge-on-edge" contact with heavier weapons could cause nicks. Therefore, always parry attacks with the flat of the blade or at an angle, as historical fencing schools dictated.
The steel is not stainless. After every training session, wipe the sword dry with a cloth and apply a thin layer of preservative oil (e.g., WD-40 or gun oil) to prevent corrosion. The leather on the handle deserves treatment with beeswax or leather balm from time to time.
