Padded Arming Jack (15th Century)
1xDo you wonder how heavy plate armour sits on the body without shifting, pinching, or restricting movement? The secret lies in what's underneath. This padded jacket, inspired by 15th-century styles (often called an arming jack or arming doublet), is exactly the structural element that transforms a pile of metal into functional protection. It is designed to support the weight of the armour and protect your body from chafing. Further product information ...

Suspension System for Your Armour
Unlike standard gambesons, this jacket features reinforced arming points with stitched eyelets on the shoulders, sleeves, and bottom hem. These are used to tie on individual pieces of plate armour – pauldrons, couters, vambraces, and leg harness. This prevents the armour from slipping and distributes its weight evenly across the body. The cut is tailored and fastens in the front with a row of fabric-covered buttons, which is practical under a breastplate.
Material and Colors
The outer layer is made of sturdy cotton canvas (100% cotton). The internal padding is a blend of polyester and wool, providing sufficient cushioning while maintaining a relatively low profile (thickness approx. 5 mm / 0.2"). This means you won't look puffy under your armour, yet you'll remain protected. The jacket has a standing collar to protect against chafing from the gorget.
To ensure it matches your kit or heraldry, this arming jack is available in four colors: Black, Brown, Blue, and Green.
