Construction and Functional Details
The armour is crafted from 1.2 mm (approx. 18 gauge) mild steel, providing sufficient durability for scenic use while maintaining a manageable weight. The set consists of:
- Breastplate: An anatomically shaped plate with a central ridge (keel) on the belly, which historically helped deflect sword cuts and musket balls. The edges around the neck and arms are rolled, increasing safety and preventing chafing.
- Backplate: Protects the back and, together with the breastplate, forms complete torso protection. The two parts are connected by sturdy leather straps at the shoulders and waist, allowing for size adjustment.
- Removable Tassets: The thigh guards are made of laminated (overlapping) plates, ensuring protection for the upper legs without restricting movement. They attach to the cuirass using a historically accurate hinge system secured by a steel pin with a hook. If you prefer a lighter loadout, the tassets can be easily removed.
Historical Context: What is "Munition Armour"?
The term "munition" in this context refers to military supplies issued from an armoury/magazine. These suits were not custom-made for nobility but produced in large batches for recruited soldiers. They were characterized by a universal size, robustness, and a lack of unnecessary decoration. This is exactly the type of armour depicted in de Gheyn's manual, used to train soldiers in the use of the pike and musket.

Safety and Usage
Warning: Although the armour is made of quality steel, it is a costume replica. It is not certified for full-contact combat (buhurt, Battle of the Nations). For increased comfort, we strongly recommend wearing a padded gambeson or thick woollen clothing underneath.
Care and Maintenance
The armour is made of untreated carbon steel, giving it an authentic look but requiring care:
- Rust Protection: Regularly oil the metal, especially after every use or contact with bare hands (use WD-40, Ballistol, or mineral oil).
- Storage: Store the armour in a dry environment. Moisture is the enemy of both steel and leather.
- Leather: Treat the leather straps occasionally with leather conditioner to keep them flexible and prevent cracking.
