Historical Inspiration and Armour Development

Although women in history wore plate armour only in very rare and specific cases (such as Joan of Arc), this product is a masterpiece demonstrating how historical technologies can be adapted for modern re-enactment and fantasy cosplay. The construction of the armour is technologically based on 15th-century European plate armour, when the so-called faulds and tassets became widely used. These movably riveted lames were designed to protect the vulnerable areas of the lower abdomen and upper thighs without restricting the knight's movement or riding ability. The armour is manufactured from strong mild steel and its edges are safely rolled (rounded), a historical technique that prevented the edges from cutting into the skin or clothing and simultaneously served to deflect the point of an enemy weapon.

Principles of Safe Usage

This cuirass is donned by pulling it over the torso and tightening it firmly using the six leather straps with buckles on both sides. It is an ideal choice for LARP, cosplay, theatrical performances, and light stage combat. We must strongly warn you, however, that it is not protective armour suitable for extreme full-contact power combat, such as buhurt or Battle of the Nations (BotN). The 1.5 mm (approx. 16 gauge) thickness is not sufficient for these sports. Never use the armour to defend against actual sharp weapons and do not subject it to crushing blows from heavy polearms, as this could cause irreversible deformation of the steel and serious injury to yourself.

Care and Maintenance of Plate Armour

To ensure the steel surface remains shiny and resists corrosion for a long time, it requires regular maintenance. After every use, it is absolutely essential to wipe the armour inside and out with a dry cloth to remove sweat and moisture. Subsequently, conserve the steel surface with a thin layer of high-quality gun oil (e.g., WD-40 or Ballistol). Occasionally treat the leather straps with a natural leather balsam or beeswax so they do not crack. Never store the armour in damp cellars or in airtight plastic bags where condensation can occur.

For comfortable wearing and absorption of potential blows, we strongly recommend you acquire a suitable under-layer to wear beneath this armour. As an ideal accessory to this cuirass, we recommend you choose a thickly padded women's arming doublet (gambeson) with long sleeves, the design of which corresponds to 15th-century European fashion.
