15th Century Gothic Cuirass, Knight's Plate Armour

Awaken the Knight Within You

This Gothic cuirass is not just a piece of metal, but a gateway to history. It is perfectly suited for a wide range of uses:

  • LARP and Historical Reenactment: Thanks to its robust mild steel construction and adjustable genuine leather straps, it provides reliable protection and comfort during battles and events. Choose the steel gauge that meets the rules of your specific event.
  • Theatre and Film: The authentic appearance will lend credibility to your character and draw the audience deeper into the story.
  • Collection and Display: Showcase this magnificent piece of armour to add a touch of medieval atmosphere to your home or collection.

For maximum protection and an authentic look, we recommend wearing the cuirass over a high-quality gambeson or padded arming doublet and complementing it with other pieces of Gothic armour, such as Gothic pauldrons.

The Pinnacle of the Armourer's Art

Gothic plate armour emerged in the second half of the 15th century and is widely regarded as the technological and aesthetic zenith of European armour-making. A characteristic feature is its fluting (or channeling), which not only decorated the surface but, more importantly, increased its strength and resistance to dents without adding extra weight. The plates were designed to mimic the human form as closely as possible, ensuring a "tailored" fit that granted the wearer great agility in combat. This particular cuirass consists of several articulated segments riveted to leather straps, further enhancing your mobility.

A Tidbit from History

Did you know that a suit of Gothic armour was so highly valued that it was often passed down from father to son? Crafting a full suit could take several months, and its cost was equivalent to that of a small estate. It was during the 15th century, in conflicts such as the Wars of the Roses in England, that the complete dominance of a knight in full Gothic plate on the battlefield became evident. His protection was nearly perfect against most contemporary bladed weapons.

How to Care for Your Armour

Your new plate armour will be delivered to you carefully packaged and coated in a layer of protective oil to prevent corrosion. Before its first use, you can easily wipe this oil off with a dry cloth or use a suitable degreaser. To ensure your cuirass maintains its beauty and functionality for years to come, we recommend thoroughly drying it after each use—especially in damp conditions—and applying a thin layer of protective oil (such as Ballistol or a similar mineral oil). Keep the leather parts in good condition with appropriate leather care products.
