Any knight in their right mind covers their hands. Fiore dei Liberi, the renowned 15th-century Italian fencing master, explicitly wrote that he always wore gauntlets in his duels to avoid the ease of losing a finger. Following the wisdom of the old masters, these gauntlets offer you the protection you need with the style you desire. Modelled after the German armour fashion of the late 15th century, they provide excellent dexterity thanks to their fully articulated fingers, making them a superior choice for those who value weapon control over the brute protection of mittens. German Style Articulated Gauntlets in Polished Steel (1450–1500)

Gothic Aesthetics and Craftsmanship

These gauntlets are a tribute to the German Gothic style, characterized by the fluting (ridges) on the cuffs and back of the hand. This design choice is not merely decorative; the ridges strengthen the 1.2 mm steel plate and help deflect enemy blows away from the wrist. The aesthetic appeal lies in the uniform, polished finish of the steel, offering a sleek and professional look suitable for any man-at-arms.

For your comfort, a leather glove is sewn into the steel shell, attached at the fingertips. This ensures the gauntlet moves with your hand. As this is a handcrafted product made with natural materials, slight variations in the leather tone or steel finish are a mark of authenticity.

Usage and Suitability

These gauntlets are lightweight and comfortable, making them perfect for:

  • Reenactment & Living History: Suitable for portraying men-at-arms from the Wars of the Roses or the Burgundian Wars era.
  • LARP: Look the part of a high-ranking commander or paladin without the fatigue of heavy tournament armour.

Important Safety Warning: With a steel thickness of approximately 1.2 mm (18 gauge), these gauntlets are considered "Class C" armour. They are NOT suitable for full-contact medieval combat (Buhurt/HMB) using heavy steel weapons, as the finger plates may deform under heavy impact, risking injury.

Maintenance and Care

To keep your armour looking its best:

  • Prevent Rust: The carbon steel is untreated. Wipe dry after use and apply a protective oil (like WD-40 or mineral oil).
  • Leather Care: Treat the inner glove with leather conditioner occasionally to prevent it from drying out and cracking due to sweat and moisture.
