Construction and brass details
Overlapping steel plates cover the back of the hand and wrist. A brass knuckle plate and brass finger segments create the characteristic two-tone appearance. Each finger has its own covering of riveted plates, with a separately covered thumb. Pronounced ridges and profiled edges decorate the flared cuffs. Leather straps with buckles complete the fastening arrangement.
According to the supplied information, the inner leather gloves are stitched to the fingertips. Replacement or repair requires releasing the relevant stitches and restoring the attachment afterwards.
Historical background and the Sigismund name
The design is inspired by German armour-making of 1450–1500. Elongated shapes and pronounced ridges suit the late Gothic style. Gauntlet construction had to combine finger coverage with sufficient movement to hold a weapon hilt or reins.
The name Sigismund refers to Sigismund of Tyrol, who commissioned armourers during the 15th century. His orders illustrate the importance of princely courts to the armour-making craft. The name is thematic; these gauntlets are not a documented copy of his personal equipment.

Preparation and safety
Adjust the straps, close your hand slowly and check for pressure or restricted movement. We recommend a comfortable clothing layer beneath the cuffs. These gauntlets are not intended for heavy contact fighting such as buhurt or Battle of the Nations. Suitability for other contact fencing is not confirmed. Beware of pinching between moving plates.
Care and suggested accessories
1060 steel is not stainless. Clean and dry the metal after use, then apply a thin film of protective oil without wetting the leather. Clean brass gently without coarse abrasives. Treat the leather with a suitable conditioner and keep it away from direct heat when drying. Check rivets, straps and stitching regularly.
