Medieval Longsword Zawisza Czarny with Floral Scabbard for HEMA
Features and Craftsmanship
The blade is forged from highly durable spring steel. It features a smooth finish and a pronounced fuller running down the center, which effectively reduces the overall weight of the weapon without compromising its structural integrity. The hardness of the material and the specific heat treatment ensure a long lifespan even under rigorous use. The flex strength of the blade is rated at 15 kg (33 lbs), which presents a slightly stiffer profile than the standard 12-13 kg range found in common HEMA longswords. This provides you with a weapon that offers excellent, firm feedback during parries and blade binds.
The cruciform crossguard is delicately decorated with floral engravings on both sides. The hilt, with a total length of 28 cm (11 in), is fitted with a comfortable, non-slip black silicone rubber grip. This ensures a firm and absolutely secure hold, even when wearing thick or sweaty sparring gloves. The massive, faceted pommel provides an excellent counterweight to the blade.
Scabbard and Historical Context
This type of longsword was widely used during the 14th and 15th centuries across Central and Western Europe as the primary sidearm of the knightly class. In combat, it was used for devastating cuts and precise thrusts into the gaps of plate armour. The sword is supplied with a beautiful and sturdy black scabbard. It is made of high-quality faux leather and is extensively decorated with a deep floral embossed pattern over its entire surface. The tip of the scabbard is safely capped with a steel chape. An integrated leather suspension system with a buckle for easy belt wearing is also included.
Safety and Maintenance
This sword is a fully functional replica designed for practical use, such as HEMA sparring, technique drills, and light contact combat. However, always ensure you wear appropriate protective gear (certified fencing mask, gambeson, heavy-duty gloves) to prevent injuries to yourself and your opponent. Maintaining the sword is simple but essential: after every training session, wipe the blade dry and lightly oil it with gun or sword oil to prevent corrosion. Avoid striking hard, inanimate objects (like stones or steel poles) that could compromise the structural integrity of the steel.
