Double-Sided Velvet Medieval Banner with Heraldic Lion and Lilies
Historical Context and Noble Heraldry
The colour blue combined with golden lilies (fleur-de-lis) has always been associated with the French royal dynasty and the highest nobility. The golden lion (lion rampant) adds a symbol of immense courage, strength, and military might. The diagonal lines (known in heraldry as bendlets) dynamically divide the composition. In the Middle Ages, such richly decorated banners with fringes served primarily for ceremonial purposes, representing the sovereign at jousting tournaments, or acting as a clear rallying point for elite troops on the battlefield. It is also perfectly suited for portraying fantasy factions inspired by the High Middle Ages.
Mounting Method and Recommended Accessories
The top edge of this double-sided standard is equipped with a practical, continuous sleeve (tunnel), which allows for easy and very secure threading onto a horizontal spar. The sleeve is always carefully custom-sewn so that the banner sits perfectly on the pole, does not slip, and does not form unsightly creases. Therefore, we kindly ask that you do not forget to specify the exact diameter of the pole on which the pennant will hang in your order notes. As an optimal accessory for this luxurious banner, we highly recommend acquiring a smoothly sanded, dark-stained wooden pole, which will perfectly complete the overall historical impression.
True Cotton Velvet Care Instructions
The banner is precisely crafted from genuine 100% cotton velvet. This exclusive material excels with a breathtaking deep lustre and rich texture, but it requires highly specific care. Under no circumstances should you wash the flag in a washing machine or by hand. Contact with water would irreversibly damage the velvet pile, ruin the fringes, and cause the fabric to shrink significantly. In the case of light dusting, use only a soft clothes brush and carefully brush the banner in the direction of the nap. For heavier soiling, leave the cleaning exclusively to a professional dry cleaner. Never iron the velvet directly to avoid scorching the fibres. Keep the standard at a safe distance from open fires and torches, as both cotton velvet and fringes are highly flammable.
