Linen Banner with Red Cross and Heraldry
Are you building a majestic military encampment, preparing for an epic battle, or looking for a central standard for your LARP faction? This giant, impressive banner sewn from high-quality natural linen is exactly the element that will make your camp the unmissable centre of the action. The dark black background with respectable dimensions of 3 x 1.8 metres (approx. 9.8 x 5.9 ft) is dominated by a striking red cross, which is complemented by a detailed heraldic crest. It combines the traditional English motif of three lions with a sword and the historical motto A.E.I.O.U. This makes the flag an absolutely ideal accessory for darker fantasy worlds, LARP, or specific alternate-history scenarios. Raise your standard high and show everyone the power gathering beneath it! Huge Medieval Linen Banner with Red Cross and Heraldry
Historical Inspiration and Use in the Camp
Standards of such gigantic proportions were not typically used directly in the front lines of the medieval battlefield but served as the main identification points of military camps, decorated castle walls, or hung above the large tents of commanders. Our banner creatively combines several powerful historical symbols. The red cross on a dark field evokes crusader or knightly orders, while the coat of arms with three lions passant guardant clearly refers to English royal heraldry (the Plantagenets). The mysterious acronym A.E.I.O.U., on the other hand, is the famous motto of the Habsburg Emperor Frederick III. This unique fusion gives the banner a distinct, slightly alternative look that will fantastically liven up any LARP or historical festival.
Attachment and Installation
The banner is ready to be hung using a fabric sleeve (tunnel) on the edge. So that this sleeve can be sewn exactly to measure and the canvas fits perfectly on your pole, it is absolutely essential to state the diameter of your pole in the order notes. For such a massive piece of fabric, we strongly recommend using a really sturdy, thick wooden pole and anchoring it deep into the ground, as the wind can exert a considerable force on an area of 3 x 1.8 metres. For a more permanent installation, it is advisable to fix the edges of the sleeve to the pole with small nails to prevent it from bunching up.
Linen Canvas Care Instructions
Natural linen is an absolutely unparalleled material for historical equipment – it is strong, breathable, and has a beautiful, authentic texture. To maintain a long life and colour saturation, it requires proper care:
- Wash the standard exclusively by hand or in a large washing machine on a very gentle cycle at a maximum temperature of 30 °C (86 °F).
- Use only mild liquid detergents without chemical bleaches.
- Never dry linen canvas in a tumble dryer, as it may shrink and the print may be damaged. Let it dry freely in the fresh air.
- During strong winds, gales, or extreme storms, we recommend taking down such a large area of fabric in good time so that the sleeve is not torn out or the canvas is not ripped against surrounding branches and tents.
Recommended Accessories
To accompany this enormous standard, we highly recommend purchasing a massive ash wooden pole from our range and hand-forged nails for its secure fixation.
