Early Medieval Slavic Conical Nasal Helmet for Stage Combat

Historical Legacy of Eastern Warriors

Throughout history, this type of helmet enjoyed immense popularity not only among Slavic tribes but was also widely used by the warriors of Kievan Rus, the elite Varangians (eastern-oriented Vikings), and the feared Khazars. The conical shape of the skull was highly functional, as it facilitated the deflection of a weapon after a strike, thereby minimizing the force of impact on the warrior's head. The distinct top finial was used to attach horsehair plumes, which served both to intimidate the enemy and as a way to recognize commanders in the chaos of battle.

Durable Construction for Stage Combat

The helmet is made of 2 mm (~0.08 in) thick, overlapping mild steel plates that are firmly riveted together. This historically accurate method of layering material ensures extreme robustness. To attach an aventail (chainmail) protecting the neck, five sturdy loops are provided on the lower edge of the helmet. Inside, you will find a fully adjustable, high-quality leather liner with a solid chin strap, ensuring the helmet stays perfectly in place even during rapid movements.

Armour Safety and Maintenance

This helmet is fully battle-ready for stage combat, LARP, and historical reenactment. However, please note that it is not certified armor for full-contact heavy buhurt (Battle of the Nations), which often requires even thicker steel and specific visors. For maximum comfort and shock absorption, we highly recommend wearing a sturdy padded arming cap (coif) underneath. To keep the steel rust-free for a long time, you must wipe the helmet dry after every use (especially in humid environments or after sweating) and treat it with a suitable gun or armour oil. The leather parts should occasionally be treated with leather balm.
