Torso-protecting armour evolved over centuries. While chainmail dominated the High Middle Ages, knights transitioned to massive plate cuirasses with the advent of firearms and more effective crossbows. This particular model takes inspiration from transitional armour and brigandines, where steel plates were often combined with sturdy leather to achieve an optimal compromise between mechanical protection and warrior flexibility. The cuirass is designed not to restrict your mobility, which is absolutely crucial for success in combat.

Safety Guidelines and Proper Armour Care

The cuirass is an ideal choice for LARP, theatrical performances, cosplay, or lighter historical stage reenactments. Although it is fully functional and provides solid protection against foam weapons or light blows, I explicitly point out that this is not protective armour suitable for full-contact heavy combat such as buhurt, Battle of the Nations (HMB), and similar extreme sports. The material is not designed to absorb full-force blows from hard steel weapons.

For comfortable wear, to prevent chafing, and to effectively absorb any impacts, I strongly recommend that you always wear a suitable undergarment, ideally a high-quality padded gambeson, underneath the cuirass. Mild steel requires regular care. After every event, clean the armour of sweat and moisture and treat it with gun oil to prevent rust. Regularly grease the leather parts with leather balm to keep them from cracking and to maintain their suppleness.
