Steel Nasal Helmet - Olomouc Type, 1.6 mm

Proven design and honest craftsmanship

This helmet faithfully replicates the simple yet effective design that dominated European battlefields for centuries (roughly from the 9th to the 13th century). Its conical shape, forged from a single piece of approximately 1.6 mm thick steel, was excellent at deflecting blows. The sturdy nasal guard offered essential facial protection without restricting your view – a crucial advantage in the chaos of battle!

The inside of the helmet is treated with black paint to prevent corrosion, ensuring it will serve you reliably for a long time.

Comfort and safety for you

It's not just a piece of steel – inside, you'll find a built-in, adjustable leather liner that ensures a good fit and comfortable wear. An essential feature is the adjustable chin strap with a solid brass buckle. This guarantees the helmet stays firmly on your head, even in the wildest mêlée.

Its simplicity and effectiveness made it ideal for equipping large armies.

A fascinating historical fact

The famous Bayeux Tapestry, depicting the Battle of Hastings in 1066, is filled with warriors wearing these helmets. There's a renowned scene where rumour spread that the Norman Duke, William the Conqueror, had fallen. To rally his men and prove he was alive, he supposedly had to lift this very type of nasal helmet to show his face!

How to care for your helmet

Maintenance is straightforward:

  1. Keep it dry. After use, especially if you've sweated in it, wipe it dry with a cloth.
  2. Regularly treat the outer surface with a thin layer of oil (e.g., WD-40, gun oil, conservation wax) to prevent rust.
  3. Check the leather liner and strap and treat them with leather conditioner if necessary.
  4. Store the helmet in a dry place.

Own a piece of history – a reliable and iconic nasal helmet that transports you to the age of brave warriors and great battles!
