Battlefield Giant: Two-Handed Sword "Stuart"
History and Construction
This type of weapon, known in German as a Zweihänder or Bidenhänder, represented the pinnacle of European sword development. It was used to break pike formations and protect standard-bearers. The "Stuart" sword features a long carbon steel blade with a fuller on both sides, equipped with parrying hooks (flukes). These served as a secondary guard. The section of the blade between the main crossguard and the hooks (ricasso) is wrapped in leather. This allows for "half-swording" techniques, where the warrior grips the weapon above the guard for better leverage in close-quarters combat.
Assembly Instructions
For safer transport, the sword is delivered disassembled (blade with tang separate from the handle and guard). However, assembly is simple if you follow these steps:
- First, unscrew the pommel and remove the locking nut hidden underneath.
- Carefully remove the leather-covered wooden grip. If it is stuck, use a rubber mallet and gently tap the edge of the grip away from the crossguard. Wiggling it slightly side-to-side can also help.
- Take the steel crossguard and place it on the blade tang so that its arch faces the blade tip (or according to your preference if symmetrical). Ensure it fits precisely on the blade shoulder. If not, try rotating it 180 degrees.
- Reattach the grip and the metal washer.
- Screw on and carefully tighten the nut, followed by the pommel. Your sword is now ready.
Safety Warning and Warranty
Although the sword is made of high-quality carbon steel and the manufacturer claims it is suitable for fencing, due to the lack of manufacturer service support, we sell it primarily as a decorative item without a warranty for damage caused by fencing. Its high weight (3800 g) makes it unsuitable for standard, safe fencing training or LARP battles where there is a risk of injuring the opponent. We recommend it for solo drills, strength training, or as an imposing decoration.

Care and Maintenance
The sword is made of carbon steel, which is prone to rust. Therefore, treat the blade regularly with preservation oil (e.g., WD-40 or gun oil), especially after touching it with bare hands. Occasionally treat the leather parts on the handle and ricasso with leather balm to prevent cracking and keep them supple.
