Medieval Fantasy Hourglass Gauntlets | Red Leather Detail, 20 Gauge Steel
Design and Construction
Although the cuff shape is based on historical "hourglass" gauntlets, the finger construction is pure fantasy. Steel scales are riveted onto a sturdy leather base layer and overlap each other, creating a shell-like effect. A striking aesthetic element is the red leather with contrasting black stitching that borders the steel parts.
Inside hides a comfortable dark brown suede glove. This ensures the steel doesn't touch your skin directly while providing good tactile sensitivity for handling props, weapons, or a wizard's staff.
Purpose and Safety
The gauntlets are made from mild steel with a thickness of approx. 0.9 mm (20 gauge). This thickness is ideal for:
- LARP: The gauntlets are lightweight and won't burden you even during all-day wear.
- Cosplay and Theatre: They look massive but allow for good mobility.
- Costume Parties: An impressive accessory in which you can easily hold a tankard of ale.
Warning: Due to the 20-gauge material thickness, this is Class C – Costume Armor. These gauntlets are not intended for full-contact fencing with steel weapons (HEMA) or heavy combat (Buhurt). A hard blow with a steel sword could dent the metal and injure your fingers.

Care Instructions
Even if you are a hero from a fantasy world, rust is your enemy here too. The steel needs to be kept oiled (use gun oil, WD-40, or Ballistol), especially after an event where moisture might condense on it. We recommend occasionally cleaning the suede glove with a leather brush and impregnating it with a suede spray to keep it soft and resistant to sweat.
