Green Infantry Gambeson (12th–13th Century)
Designed for the Battlefield
The gambeson features characteristic vertical quilting, which helps maintain the shape of the padding. A crucial detail is the high collar with side buttoning. This design is intentional—it prevents buttons from digging into your throat when wearing a mail coif or a helmet over the gambeson. The bottom hem features slits in the front and back, allowing for unrestricted movement when running, kneeling, or riding.
Material and Craftsmanship
This padded jack is made entirely of 100% cotton (outer shell, lining, and padding). The outer layer features a special coarser texture that faithfully mimics linen fabric. You get the authentic historical look with the softness and easy maintenance of cotton. The padding thickness is approximately 5–6 mm (approx. 0.2 inches). This is a medium-weight variant that protects you from armour chafing without causing overheating.

Gambeson Care
To ensure your armour lasts as long as possible:
- Machine wash in cold water (max. 30°C / 86°F) on a gentle cycle.
- Treat stubborn stains (grass, mud, rust) with a soft brush and mild soap.
- Do not tumble dry; let it air dry naturally to prevent shrinkage.
Recommended Accessories
This green gambeson pairs perfectly with a leather belt and pouch. For combat use, we recommend combining it with a mail coif and an open helmet such as a kettle hat or cervelliere.
