Two-Tone Quilted Arming Doublet Tomyslav with Detachable Sleeves

Historical Context and Practical Usage

This quilted jacket, commonly referred to as a gambeson or arming doublet, is deeply rooted in the European military fashion of the 14th and early 15th centuries. During this era, dividing garments into two contrasting coloured halves (the so-called mi-parti style) was immensely popular. Infantry and poorer combatants wore these thick padded jackets as their primary, standalone body armour. Wealthier knights and mercenaries, on the other hand, wore them as an indispensable shock-absorbing layer underneath their mail shirts or plate armour to mitigate the kinetic energy of blunt force trauma. Today, you will find this doublet incredibly useful for historical reenactment, LARP battles, or as light protective gear for Historical European Martial Arts (HEMA) training. Please bear in mind that while the padding absorbs impacts, this is not certified protective equipment for full-contact, heavy medieval combat (such as Buhurt).

Care Instructions for Cotton Garments

To ensure your doublet lasts a long time and retains its rich colours, proper care is essential. Since the outer shell is made of cotton, we recommend machine washing it at a maximum temperature of 30 °C (86 °F) on a gentle cycle. Use a mild detergent without bleach. Never put the doublet in a tumble dryer, as this could damage the internal padding and cause the fabric to shrink. The best method is to let it air dry flat on a horizontal surface. If ironing is necessary, set your iron to medium heat appropriate for cotton.
