Since the blade is painted with a colourful motif, never use abrasive polishing pastes or traditional Japanese uchiko powder for cleaning, as this could scratch or completely wash away the painted pattern. Only gently wipe the blade with a soft, dry cloth and apply a very thin layer of silicone or clove oil for long-term preservation. The white wooden scabbard only needs to be dusted with a dry microfibre cloth.
