Black Renaissance Landsknecht Leather Katzbalger Scabbard with Belt
The Weapon of the Feared Mercenaries
The Katzbalger was the absolutely indispensable sidearm of the feared German Landsknechts during the 16th century. This relatively short but tremendously heavy sword with its characteristic S-shaped guard was designed for brutal close combat (the so-called melee), when pike formations clashed and there was no room for long weapons. The blade of the Katzbalger often widened towards the tip and was rounded, which required a specific shape of the scabbard. Our replica respects this historical fact and is therefore finished with a wide, riveted leather chape. The ingenious suspension system uses complex leather lacing to firmly secure the long belt, allowing you to carry the sword in the classic horizontal or slightly angled position, exactly as we know it from period woodcuts.
Individually Custom Made
To ensure your Katzbalger fits perfectly in the scabbard, does not fall out, and can be drawn with lightning speed at the critical moment, this scabbard is always custom-made to your specific weapon. If you order it directly with a sword from our range, we will make it to fit perfectly. However, if you are ordering the scabbard separately for your existing weapon, it is absolutely essential that you fill out our detailed blade measurement chart after completing your order. Please pay special attention to the width of the blade at the guard and the width just before the tip.

Safety and Leather Care
Genuine leather requires regular care. We recommend treating the scabbard with a high-quality leather balm containing beeswax. This will keep it supple and resistant to moisture. Never dry the leather on a radiator or near an open fire, otherwise it will harden and crack. For safety reasons, we strongly warn you against inserting sharp swords into this scabbard! Because the scabbard lacks a solid wooden core, drawing or sheathing a weapon with a sharp edge carries a high risk of slicing through the leather and causing serious injury. Use it exclusively for blunt stage combat, practice, or LARP weapons.
We highly recommend purchasing a typically slashed Landsknecht beret or an entire Landsknecht costume from our range to accompany this scabbard, creating an absolutely unbeatable period look.
