Decorative Katana Shimazu in Red and Black Finish
Detailed Description of the Sword
This decorative katana is full of unique design elements and precise details that make it a jewel of any collection.
The Blade (Nagasa)
The blade is crafted from AISI 420 stainless steel and is left blunt for decorative purposes. Its surface is hardened and features an etched line of a false hamon. Near the blade collar (habaki), you will find two gilded symbols – the mon (family crests) of Tokugawa and Ieyasu, the great shogun who unified Japan. Thanks to its detailed dimensions (29 mm width, 6.15 mm thickness at habaki), the blade has a very robust feel.
The Handle (Tsuka) and Guard (Tsuba)
The handle is made of natural hardwood of a deep red color and is smoothly lacquered, a significant design departure from the traditional cord wrap. It is fitted with ornate metal accessories (menuki and kashira) made of zamak alloy in a gold tone. The most prominent feature is undoubtedly the guard (tsuba). Not only does it have an oval shape depicting a scene of samurai on a battlefield, but it is also complemented by a D-shaped knuckle-guard, which protects the hand's joints and gives the sword a massive, almost European appearance.
The Scabbard (Saya) and Accessory Knives
The aluminum scabbard has a polished black lacquer finish, interwoven with fine red lines resembling lightning. The upper part is wrapped with a red and black cord (sageo). The ornate fittings at the mouth (koiguchi) and tip (kojiri) are finished in a gold tone. The scabbard traditionally houses two small accessories: the skewer Kōgai and the utility knife Kozuka with a stainless steel blade.
Where Will It Stand Out?
This sword is a strictly decorative item. It is not intended for cutting, fencing, or any other practical use. Its dramatic appearance and historical reference make it destined to become:
- The centerpiece of your weapons collection that will immediately catch the eye.
- An impressive decoration on the wall of your office, living room, or themed room.
- An original accessory for a cosplay or theatrical costume where no contact is involved.
- An exclusive gift for fans of samurai culture who appreciate unconventional design.
The Shimazu Clan and the Tokugawa Legacy
This sword bears the name of the Shimazu clan, one of the oldest and most powerful families of feudal Japan, who ruled Satsuma Province for nearly 700 years. They were renowned for their military might and the bravery of their warriors. The presence of Tokugawa Ieyasu's crests on the blade symbolically places the sword in the Edo period (1603-1868), when Japan was ruled by the Tokugawa shoguns and the samurai class stood at the top of the social hierarchy.
Caring for Your Sword
To maintain its original beauty, regularly wipe the sword with a soft, dry cloth. Protect it from moisture and dust. The stainless steel blade does not require oiling, but it is good to keep it clean. Do not use abrasive cleaners that could damage the lacquered surface.
