Forged Early Medieval Viking Battle Axe with Runes and Leather Wrapping
Construction and Historical Context of the Weapon
The shape of this axe is based on historical findings of the so-called bearded axes (skeggöx), typical for the Scandinavian region. The extended lower part of the blade (the beard) allowed the warrior to hook an enemy's shield or weapon in combat while reducing the overall weight of the axe and maintaining a long striking edge. The wooden shaft is decorated with a mysterious runic inscription. In the Early Middle Ages, runes served not only as a script but held a strong magical and protective significance. The criss-cross leather strap wrapping just below the axe head historically served to protect the wood from being severed during close-quarters combat.

Safety Guidelines and Intended Use
The weapon is supplied with a slightly sharpened edge that is approximately 1 mm thick, meaning it is not completely razor-sharp. For safety reasons, we must strongly warn you: this axe is under no circumstances intended for contact Historical European Martial Arts (HEMA, buhurt), stage combat, or LARP battles! A strike with a 1 mm steel edge during full contact would cause fatal injuries, and there would also be a high risk of the thin edge chipping quickly. The product is also not designed as a utility axe for chopping firewood. It is a premium decorative weapon, a luxurious costume accessory, and a tool for solo, non-contact shadow training.
Material Care and Maintenance
Given that the axe head is forged from carbon steel, it requires regular maintenance; otherwise, it is susceptible to atmospheric corrosion. After every training session or contact with moisture, it is absolutely essential to wipe the steel completely dry and preserve it with a thin layer of gun or natural oil. We recommend occasionally treating the wooden shaft featuring the carved runes with linseed oil, which protects the wood from drying out and cracking. Condition the leather wrapping with a high-quality beeswax balm so the leather remains supple and does not begin to crumble over time.
Recommended Accessories
To complement this gorgeous Viking axe, we highly recommend purchasing a sturdy historical leather belt with a massive steel buckle, as well as a traditional leather axe frog featuring a metal ring, into which the axe will perfectly fit, allowing for a safe and incredibly stylish carry.
