Russian helmets like muste have been created under the influence of the Persian weaponsmiths. This is indicated by the high conical helmet bowl and the large aventail surrounding the entire head. Similar looking helmets are known from regions from Eastern Europe to India.

Such a helmet could have been worn by a Russian nobleman - the boyar or a professional warrior. A boyar was a member of the highest rank of the feudal Bulgarian, Kievan, Moscovian, Serbian, Wallachian, Moldavian, and later Romanian aristocracies, second only to the ruling princes from the 10th century to the 17th century.
