Unique Accessories in the Handle
What makes this katana exceptional is the presence of two hidden tools that pass through holes in the guard (tsuba) into pockets in the scabbard:
- Kozuka (Small Knife): This is a small utility knife with a richly decorated handle. Samurai used it as a "pocket knife" for daily needs – from slicing food to cutting paper or emergency equipment repairs.
- Kogai (Skewer/Pin): The second tool resembles a split pin or skewer. Historically, it was used to arrange hair under a helmet, to scratch inaccessible places under armour, or as a tool for manipulating armour knots.
Both accessories feature handles with detailed relief work in silver and patina colours, contrasting beautifully with the black colour of the sword.
Construction and Materials
The blade, 69 cm (approx. 27.2 inches) long, is forged from carbon steel. The material is not stainless, giving it authenticity, but it requires care. A temper line (hamon) is visible on the blade. The scabbard (saya) is made of metal, which is a less common and very durable solution. The surface of the scabbard is covered with imitation black leather and fitted with distinct metal mountings on both ends.

Sword Care
Since the blade is not made of stainless steel, it is prone to corrosion. * Preservation: Regularly wipe the blade and apply a thin layer of oil (e.g., clove oil). * Fingerprints: Never touch the blade with bare hands without subsequent cleaning. Sweat is aggressive and leaves rust marks. * Usage: The sword is decorative. It is not intended for contact fencing or cutting tests (tameshigiri). Rough handling risks damaging the blade or loosening the accessories.
