This sword's aesthetics draw direct inspiration from European sidearms of the 14th to 15th centuries, representing the High to Late Gothic period. During this era, sword design evolved alongside the rise of plate armor—blades became stiffer and more tapered for superior control. The blade of the Marcello sword tapers gracefully with a central fuller that reduces overall weight to approx. 2.20 kg / 4.85 lbs while maintaining high structural rigidity. Under the Oakeshott typology, this blade design fits Type XV or XVI, which were versatile weapons crafted for both powerful cuts and accurate thrusts.

Constructed using traditional methods, the blade's tang runs through the wooden core grip and is securely peened over the solid steel pommel. The hilt features a wood core wrapped in genuine leather, providing a firm, non-slip grip. The curved crossguard and diamond-shaped pommel give the sword its distinctive Gothic outline. Designed as a single-handed weapon, it leaves your off-hand free to wield a buckler shield or engage in grappling techniques.

The Legacy of the Name Marcello

The name Marcello references historic Italian nobility and famous condottieri (mercenary commanders) of the late Middle Ages. Derived from the Latin name Marcellus (a diminutive of Marcus, associated with Mars, the Roman god of war), this sword is named in honor of the bravery, tactical genius, and resilience of medieval commanders.

Maintenance and Safety Guidelines

The spring steel blade is not rust-proof. To keep your sword in top condition, wipe it dry after every use to remove sweat and moisture, and apply protective mineral or gun oil regularly. Never store the sword inside a leather scabbard long-term, as leather naturally retains moisture.

Rules for Safe Use:

• Inspect the blade before every session. File down any burrs or sharp nicks on the edge using a diamond file or sandpaper to prevent injury. Edge nicks are normal signs of wear.
• Block incoming strikes using the flat of the blade rather than edge-to-edge. Execute strikes with martial discipline and controlled force. Please note that it is not protective equipment intended for high-impact full-contact fighting like Buhurt.
• If the crossguard loosens over time, re-peen the pommel or temporarily wrap fishing line into the guard gap to secure the fit.
• All handling and combat practice are done strictly at your own risk. Store out of reach of children!
