Hand-Forged Viking Spearhead, Petersen Type K
The Viking Warrior's Most Common Weapon
Despite popular imagination, it was not the sword or the axe, but the spear (geirr) that was the most common and versatile weapon in the hands of the Vikings. This particular spearhead, with its shape and size, corresponds to Type K in Petersen's typology. These large and heavy heads were designed to be effective not only for thrusting but, thanks to their width and robustness, for hewing as well, capable of piercing a shield or armour. It was a truly feared weapon on the battlefields of the Early Middle Ages.
Create Your Own Weapon
This spearhead is supplied on its own, giving you the opportunity to assemble a spear exactly to your specifications. To complete it, you will need a quality wooden shaft (we recommend ash wood with a diameter of about 3-4 cm). The end of the shaft must be shaped to fit snugly into the spearhead's conical socket. For a secure and firm attachment, it is essential to fix the head with a rivet or a cross-pin (not included), for which you will need to drill a hole through the socket and the wood.
Hand-Forged Craftsmanship
Each spearhead is hand-forged from mild steel and polished to a high shine. The pronounced central mid-rib gives the blade strength and rigidity along its entire length. The long, split socket ensures a deep and secure fit onto the shaft. As each piece is handmade, every spearhead is an original and may have slight variations in detail, which only enhances its authenticity.

Caring For Your Spearhead
As the spearhead is made of steel, it is susceptible to rust. Dry it thoroughly after each use. To maintain it in perfect condition long-term, we recommend regularly treating the surface with a thin layer of conservation oil (e.g., Ballistol). Store in a dry place.
Principles for Safe Use
Before any use, always ensure that the spearhead is firmly and securely attached to the shaft. Although the head is not factory-sharpened, it is a massive and heavy piece of metal with a point that can cause serious injury or property damage. Never aim the spear at people or animals. Use it responsibly and with the utmost caution. This is not a toy!
